Our Story
A family shop on the west bank of the Nile, since 1921
Old Shop Egypt began in 1921 as a small family shop trading in silver and stone. A century on, it is still a family affair — a workshop and a doorway on the west bank of the Nile at Luxor, a few minutes from the temples that taught us our trade.
Our signature stone is Libyan desert glass — a pale green glass created when a meteorite struck the Sahara some 26 million years ago. The ancients prized it; the same glass was found in Tutankhamun's tomb. Every shard we set is left raw, exactly as the desert made it.
And every piece is made by one silversmith — Mo — with hand tools and no machines. He cuts, raises and closes each bezel himself, so no two pieces can ever be the same. When a piece leaves the shop, it is one of one, forever.
